Biography

Dave Wheeler lives in Milford and is serving in his seventh term for the Executive Council, following his re-election in 2020. He previously served from 2001-2005, 2011-2013, and 2015-2019; served as a District 11 State Senator 1992-98; and served as Milford State Representative 1988-92. He and his wife Joy have four children and two foster children. He is the owner of Maranatha Carpet and Miracle Acres Farm where he grows Christmas Trees and produces Maple Syrup.

“The Executive Council shelved an attempt by the Department of Business and Economic Affairs Wednesday to spend more than $4 million in federal money to pay for professional photographs of New Hampshire’s seasons. 

In a series of four proposed contracts, the department sought to spend the money – which comes from the American Rescue Plan Act of 2021 – to pay four photography companies to develop “still images, b-roll video, and produced video segments,” according to a written explanation to the council from Commissioner Taylor Caswell.

But a number of councilors – as well as Gov. Chris Sununu – raised objections over the price tag. The contracts have been tabled, and Councilor David Wheeler, a Republican of Milford, has urged the department to find better ways to spend the money. 

“I’d like to know: What are we doing with $4 million taking pictures?” said Wheeler.

Robert McLaughlin was a Hampton police officer in June 1988 when he went to the door of his neighbor, Robert Cushing, and shot him twice in the chest.

McLaughlin eventually turned himself in to police and was later convicted.

On Wednesday, councilors voted unanimously against his request for a pardon hearing.

“This person just shouldn’t be out of jail. I think justice says he’s got to stay there for life. It was cold, calculated, cold-blooded first-degree murder,” Executive Councilor Dave Wheeler, R, said.
